Over the years we've looked at a million different ways to store your jewelry. Some were inexpensive, others were slightly unconventional, and don't forget the more traditional alternatives. This method however is not only smart, but kinda funky too!
Jewelry storage and organization is a rather personal thing. There's all sorts of ideas and solutions to keep things tangle free, but it usually comes down to what type of jewelry you actually own. This set up can accommodate almost anything and helps things hang without being caught up in the piece itself.
This board covered in burlap has been adorned with handles, knobs, and pulls of all sorts that make it easy to hang, cradle, and care for your favorite pieces. There's a million different pieces of hardware out there, some can get a little pricey, but many can be found for less or even on clearance!
It's a great way to get a custom storage system without much fuss, even more so if you start with a piece of pegboard, eliminating the need to drill holes! Just use a washer on the back to eliminate it pulling through and screw your hardware right in. Once it's covered in fabric (or even shiny vinyl for a lacquered look) no one will ever know!

Love this!
What a great idea!
That's one of the smartest things I've seen in a while.
Must do this!
I did something similar but instead of hardware, used push pins and washi paper (like wrapping paper but thicker). With my amount of jewelry, hardware could get real expensive, fast.
Oh, yes and instead of a board, I just bought a framed cork board from Office Max.
What a great idea! The number of times I've seen handles displayed in hardware shops and have never had an excuse to buy any... if only I had turned my head to one side!
mauishopgirl, I like your idea too. It certainly sounds a lot quicker to make than what I have had in mind! I've been wanting to use up fabric, braid and buttons to make some hanging jewellery storage for the inside of my wardrobe door. So far, I've bought some stiffened cotton to back the panels with but still can't make a decision on which fabric, braid scraps or even which buttons to use......typical!
Cute idea!
Any suggestions for post back earrings?
Any suggestions for brooches?
I've seen people use some sort of tightly woven plastic netting or just a strip of fabric for post backs and brooches. You secure the top to a hanger or a strip of wood with a hook on top for hanging.
Also seen egg cartons (paper or the ceramic type, Ross has some nice ones usually).
After going thru several moves and having a ton of stuff, I've finally given in and invested in stackable velvet lined trays. Silver doesn't tarnish in those trays either.
I've displayed post-back earrings by cutting old nylons/tights across the ankle and thigh and draping the leg piece across the top of my jewelry board (with a little bit of hot glue on the back of the 2 top corners). It looks like a valance and keeps my earring backs easy to find.
you poke the earrings through the nylon and fasten them, obviously.
I love this, I wish I had thought of it! I just made a jewelry organizer out of peg board which I painted with a hexagon pattern for my favorite necklaces last week and would have loved to use this inspiration as well!

For my brooches I framed a piece of foam covered in pretty fabric, and then just stuck them right in. I also made a very easy earring holder out of an old picture frame and some window screen.
Cheap, easy, flexible, and neat--thanks for the idea.
The cupped handles would work for broaches+post-back earrings.
We had the same issue so my best friend and I designed our own jewelry organizer - BelleDangles! It takes the work out of making your own and looks like a beautiful piece of art on the wall the highlights the style and color of your jewelry. www.belledangles.com
Terribly smart. I'm stealing this idea.
