We're always on the lookout for an inexpensive way to dress up a wall — especially one that's renter friendly. Look no further than your local hardware store, even if it's your first time down the air vent aisle. That's a thing, right?
Kara Paslay Designs is a great resource for real world DIY projects that pack a visual (but not financial) punch. She suggests using simple foil tape to dress up a dark wall. Although this would work on a light wall as well, it really turns this dark wall into something special without a big commitment or too much time spent.

Good idea! I use this stuff for everything, never thought of this
I would be hesitant to call this a renter-friendly solution. This tape is STICKY. It is not designed to come off easily. Depending on the materials your walls are made of, I would recommend trying it out first on a small area to make sure it doesn't rip off the top layer of paint and drywall/plaster.
It's giving me a 70's disco flashback. Neat idea for a retro look.
Yeah, I agree with Katy-kate, it's like duct tape - super sticky and not meant to be temporary.
great idea - love it!
That wall looks rather groovy! I would definitely give this a try!
Actually, foil tape is duct tape. That is, used for taping (air) ducts. Sometimes mastic tape is used as well.
Regular duct tape is usually no longer to code for this purpose.
If you can make a nice even cut, I'd faux recommend the stainless steel contact paper. Maybe take a buzz saw to a roll and make several rolls of tape out of it. It peels off beautifully-- I made a wall mural with it, and it stayed put for over a year and peeled off without taking paint with it.
WAIT! I meant I'd recommend faux stainless steel contact paper. I wouldn't faux recommend something :) It isn't as shiny, but I use this foil tape at work and it creases a lot.
