Over the weekend I ventured out to my local Target where I came across the mayhem of 90% off holiday clearance. After thinking out loud (silly Sarah) about using this sparkly "snow blanket" (aka batting with glitter in it) would work well as filler for the plethora of pillow projects I have on deck, my husband literally had to grab what he could as the herds of women came diving in to take some home. At $0.30 each who could blame them?
I announced my plans to make my pillows and said I was going to get a cart. Although batting isn't heavy, it is a bit awkward. When I came back, the shelf was empty and my husband looked like he'd been to war. He grabbed as many as he could hold and others who were listening in took the rest. Hell hath no fury like women who can score an inexpensive craft project.
It was worth the fight as my 9 bags of batting, I mean snow blankets, will make great stuffing for some pillows projects that were waiting to happen. Even when batting goes on sale at the craft store it isn't this cheap, so at thirty cents a pillow, I'm going to consider this a tip worth sharing... now that I have all that I need that is. What? All is fair in love, crafts and clearance.

Well done. I am always surprise how the clearance sections at Target always looks like a war zone.
Sorry, haven't set foot in a Target since their donation misstep.
I tried this once. Great deal but a glitter nightmare. Fake snow = glitter. But if you're making a glitter-friendly project, I say go for it!
Always check snopes.com before believing those urban rumor emails. The only donation misstep I see that might be objectionable is that they ban Salvation Army ringers from ringing at their stores. They still donate to the Salvation Army, though.
I'm not connected with Target or snopes.com, just makes me mad when people believe those emails.
It's not the Salvation Army and this wasn't a email rumor. Reported in a number of local and national news outlets: Target donated a lot of money to a local org in MN which took the money to publicly back local politician, Tom Emmer, who is very right-wing and very anti-gay. Over the summer 2011.
We have a local fabric outlet that has feather and down filled pillows that I use for my pillow projects for under $10 dollars a piece. The euro sham sized ones are $15 dollars. With closeout fabrics and trims I have made pillows that would cost a fortune at retail.
hardly an "urban email rumor", you need to make yourself aware of Target's $150,000. donation to help Tom Emmer's campaign. Although the CEO has apologized publicly, it was, as Patrick(the other one), has pointed out, a terrible and revealing misstep by Target.
I just bought some of this drastically marked-down stuffing from a JoAnn's with the same intent, but it occurred to me - how washer-friendly is this stuff? I was thinking of stuffing an crochet doll for my niece, but does that mean it can never be thrown in the washer?
meh heh heh I'm picturing the hubbys face... heh
