The days of families held captive in front of never-ending carousels of slides to view vacation snaps are (probably) over, but you can now transport viewers your trip photos into an entirely new dimension by using 360 panoramic apps for iPhone and Android phones.

Android phones have a built-in panorama camera functionality, and rumor has it that Apple is going to add the same for the final iOS 5 release. But the apps available for both phones can really enhance your vacation photos, by presenting people with an awesome, immersive view. Check out the best app each for iPhone and Android, below.

For iPhone: Photosynth

Our pick for iPhone is Photosynth (free). It has the best of all worlds, including easy stitching, quick processing of the final image, and the most important - a way to share your finished images online. Check out photosynth.net for a massive shared and geotagged database of panoramic sites from around the world.

For Android: Photoaf

Our pick for Android is Photoaf (free). The stitching function is quick and they've solved problems from previous versions that didn't complete the final stitch; however, it did replace it with a little logo at the seam. Aside from that tiny green alien, Photoaf is easy to use and lets you share your panoramas online.
