Use Plastic Bottles for Attic Insulation?

Q: Plastic bottles are the new six-pack rings. They're everywhere. Since air is a great insulator, would it be useful to line the bottom of an attic with them and then blow the insulation of your choice on top of it? A few families collecting bottles for a year could easily come up with enough bottles. It could reduce the cost of an insulation job, keep bottles out of landfills, and maybe increase the efficiency of the insulation. Anyone know if this could work?
