We've had visual reminders of resolutions on our mind since we saw the post The New New Year's Resolution: A DIY 2012 Manifesto last week. Then, while visiting a friend's home the other day, we remarked at some lovely glass containers she had on a shelf, and wondered if she collected them since they were all empty. She said she did, sort of, but not because she just thought they were pretty. She liked keeping empty containers around to remind her to be open and welcoming -- to make sure she has room for good things to come into her life.
What an interesting concept, including home decor that symbolizes a certain attitude or mindset you want to focus on in your life. Considering it's the beginning of the year, there's still time to incoporate visual reminders of the things you'd like to change about yourself or your life this year. While you're working on resolutions (which may even include resolving to loving your home more), perhaps you'll find a physical home element to incorporate that means something to you and represents something you've been wanting to change or add to your life. We'd love to hear what that might be to you.
And we collected ten lovely glass containers to add to your home in case you want to have plenty of symbolism of being open (or just need some pretty, shiny things for a shelf or table top):

1) French Glass Arcoroc Container in Emerald Green $21.50
2) Recycled glass vases $12

Nomade Express Slee...
When I read the title of this post and glanced at the photos, I thought you were going to say something like, "Having an empty candy dish will remind you that you are trying to eat less junk food this year." Or, "Empty wine bottles will remind you that you told yourself you wouldn't be such a wine-o in 2012."
;-)
Less of a resolution and more of a plan for 2012: I am learning French this year so that I might be able to enjoy my 30th birthday trip to Paris early next year! I plan on getting some Parisian/France-themed decor to sprinkle around the house as a reminder/motivation to keep at it!
I haven't done this physically...but I have done it digitally! My cell phone wallpaper is a pretty shot from about halfway up Mt. Sanitas in Boulder. I'm training to climb a 14,000 ft. mountain, and while Sanitas is much shorter than that, it is a reminder to get outside, hike, and enjoy.
Not sure about resolution reminders, but I'm in love with most of these containers!!!
This might work for a week or two, but soon I'd forget what that "reminder" was for and just look at it as another decorative item. (I never was very good at mnemonic devices.)
Plus, I never make resolutions for New Year's. I just decide to do something (like exercise more or try to get thinner) when I admit to myself the subject needs attention and I start as soon as I can after that. For as long as I can make myself follow through!
This totally worked for me last year. My goal was to pay down a certain amount of debt, so I put a certain number of pennies in a jar to symbolize the balance. Every time a "penny's" amount was payed off, a penny left the jar.
