IKEA Stolmens can be hacked to serve as anything, from bike racks to entertainment centers. These shelves have a distinct appeal, as the poles go from the floor to the ceiling and allow you to store a variety of things, from books, TVs, to DVDs, and other stuff. All in all, this hack is quite useful if you're trying to find a low cost option for mounting your flat panel HDTV.
Then, all that was left was to mount the HDTV and start hiding all of the cables. This helped preserve the airy feel of the Stolmen. He used a painted piece of cardboard to hide the rest of the cables, but using a matching wooden shelf would probably look even better. By keeping the bottom shelf very close to the floor, it allowed him to hide some more cables. More cables were run in the back of the Stolmen poles, fixed with zip ties and IKEA's cable management tubing.
Placing some IKEA Dioder strips behind the wall mount shelf would improve the lighting of this hack. Some strips could even be placed behind some of the tubing to give the shelf a nice glow. Additional Stolmen shelves could be added for even more storage. The top of the HDTV Stolmen part seems to split. This could be remedied with further Stolmen shelves to secure it.
