Taking the advice of an architect friend, Karen painted every part of the wall when she decided to add a bright and modern green accent color to her kitchen. Painting the molding, the doors, the hinges---everything, the wall really becomes unified as an accent, expanding the small space. Not painting the architectural details another color helps add to the minimalist-feel to the area.

It's a great idea for anyone with a space that has a lot going on. It's a clean look if you aren't afraid of the idea.
I tried to get a client to do it. She was all about it. The husband denied it though.
Unless your molding is a focal point and it's a large space contrasting moldings to walls can get busy if you aren't careful.

Aha, I always wondered why so many set interiors for TV shows set in the US (I'm thinking of SATC especially) have the moulding etc painted as one with the main wall...
Something to bear in mind, and while the colour's not to my taste I can imagine how busy it would all look if everything was picked out seperately, so yeah, good call on doing it that way.
I prefer mirrors and lighting to expand spaces - it's traditional and hardly innovative, but it works for the kind of apartments I prefer to live in, pre-war conversions usually (I'm in London, UK).
