Our extensive review of energy-efficient lightbulbs and hopefulness that everyone will make the green switch have left me wondering about the fate of all of those inefficient lightbulbs? Designer Uwe Hecker has a clever response— to repurpose them as vases.Produced by Corpus Delicti, the Hecker design upcycles former bulbs by placing an opening on the narrow, metal end and a gummy ring base beneath the other, keeping the vessel secure in an upright or skewed position. Each vase is packaged in an original light bulb box. And while there are several DIYs that instruct how to make a similar product, working with such thin glass can be dangerous or just off putting for the less crafty.
The design makes an almost poetic statement about non-green bulbs: The best way for them to illuminate a space is to hold something green.
