This post is largely self-serving. I'm in Vermont for a couple of weeks and — once all this damn rain halts — I am decidedly water bound. I have a few secret swimming holes in the area, but am always looking for more natural, cool, and clear spots deep enough for dipping and wallowing. No cement ponds in these here parts!

Some genius already thought to create a website mapping swimming holes across the United States and Canada, which I explored earlier today. Here are ten that make me want to pack up the car and do a swimming hole tour across the country.

This post just scratches the surface. If your area isn't featured here, check out Swimming Holes, which maps out spots nationwide (and Canada).

A last minute plea for safety: familiarize yourself with the dangers of swimming holes before you go, and take all precautions before jumping in.
