In our home, Valentine's Day is an excuse to give the kids a few small but meaningful gifts as well as to replenish their craft supplies. In years past, we'd use a small box and leave it near their seat at the dining table. This year, thanks to Grandma, we scored a couple of these Valentine's Day chairbackers from Pottery Barn Kids.
About a week before Valentine's Day, we'll attach these chairbackers to their seats and fill them up with different things that they can open everyday. So far we've gathered stickers, new scissors, wooden stamps, cookie cutters, and colored pencils. With the new craft supplies, we'll make Valentine cards for one another and then tuck them into the chairbackers to read and enjoy on Valentine's Day.
These adorable chairbackers are no longer available online but we did find our 2 at the Pottery Barn Kids store.

What a fun idea!
I saw these at PBKids yesterday in Toronto. I think they are sweet, but I immediately wondered how easy it would be to sew my own. $24 each seems a bit steep. I have 2 children and am expecting a third so I have to buy 3 of everything! I know my little ones would love to have their own mailboxes for little treats and letters. I've been meaning to do something like that for a while, but now I think maybe I will buy some actual mailboxes from a hardware store ($10) and affix them to the wall in their room or on their door.
And lo and behold I found a tutorial to make a DIY version. It's here: http://ourscoop.blogspot.com/2009/01/valentine-chair-backers.html
I guess these chair backers aren't available in the US to purchase anymore?
