Better yet, there are lots of DIY decor ideas that won't break the bank, and can even be done with your kids. I always love finding craft projects that give you as much bang for your buck as possible. Especially paper garlands, because one project can cover several feet of space in your home. Plus it's easy to find a spot for a garland - whether it's windows, fireplaces, bookshelves, or even draping garlands over some favorite art along a wall.
Here are some favorites you might want to try:
- Magazine Hearts Garland, Fiskars Crafts
- Heart Paper Chain, Bless This Mess
- Valentine Garlands, Work in Progress Kits
- Crayon Hearts Garland, Sutton Grace
- Paper Heart Wreath, Arts for Life

Those paper hearts are really creative. I think Valentine's Day is fun when you're a kid because there aren't any of those materialistic expectations associated with it. Then you grow up and it becomes a nightmare. I'd like this holiday to go away permanently. I find it unfair to put such a ridiculous and materialistic expectation of affection on both genders.
I agree Pi! I miss the days when everyone was happy with little paper cards and heart candies. For the past four years, I've been giving my valentine a photobook created online and then printed and shipped to me of all of the pictures of us over the past year. I like that it's a sentimental gift that truly means something, instead of overpriced chocolates and stuffed animals.
I agree! I'm looking forward to giving some small, sentimental gifts to my son for Valentine's day. We will probably share a nice dinner after our son has gone to bed - it sounds lovely to me!
