Q:I picked up these two pieces recently at the Habitat for Humanity's Restore. The large original painting is 40x55" (not a reprint ) and is signed Talbott. The side table is in very good condition and is marked Kent-Coffey The Elegante. I was wondering if anyone had any information on them and if they have any worth. I really like the pieces regardless, and at $40 and $20, I couldn't pass them up. Thanks.

I found this online this morning. Looks a bit like your table?

although i'm kind of hesitant, for if this post is a fraud, just to mess with our brains!!!
i knew that the name of the artist, was somehow familiar to me, quick search and found this

not sure if your painting is authentic, only an art expert-preservationist would be qualified to express opinion on that, but if was i guess it would worth more than 40$
as for the side-table, i would say its the same with the one on ebay, so maybe if you show some love to it( a.k.a. professional care) you could earn those 300$ the guy is asking on ebay
sorry for the double post, i just wanted to add, that as an art-major the painting techinque resembles the artwork from my link, so it could be an original, or a copy of Talbott's original work by an other painter.
Don't know a dollar amount, but I'd say you did well! I love them both!
Please don't use what people are ASKING as a guide for what things are worth. When evaluating worth on eBay you must only look at completed listings... Things are not worth what people WANT to get - they are worth the price people have sold them for.
Holy crap... you have just inspired me to finally get off my butt and visit our Restore. I don't know how much they're worth, but they're BEAUTIFUL!
Thanks for the info guys. I guess I didn't research enough b/c the table is exactly the same, though my surface needs a good refinishing. And my painting has the same paint texture as in the link, so it seams to an original Talbott :)
The funny thing is i didn't really care much for the painting at first; the colors and the gold/brass frame. I was going to paint the frame silver or black! @DIMITRIS, i would never mess with your head. I credit the price to the fact that my Restore is located in suburbs/country of Phila. Most of the time there is just crap, they don't know their inventory. That's why i keep going back.
I don't mean to "brag", but here is another great find I picked up for $100 from a woman clearing out her parents home. Absolutely perfect condition, Vladimir Kagan coffee table. http://www.flickr.com/photos/krickette/?saved=1
Jealous! I don't think there is a Restore near me. Sigh.
(Although I guess, to be honest, I would not have bought either item had I seen them -- I have no more wall space for art and don't find this piece appealing to me personally, and I have all the occasional tables I need in styles more to my taste. Makes me wonder about the investment opportunities I may be missing because I don't think about buying something to resell!)
Leave the frame alone. It suits the era of the picture, and a less-than-professional job can damage the value of the painting.
But both very nice finds. Well done!
beautiful painting ! great finds !
