If you think velvet is better suited to palaces and Christmas parties than your cozy apartment, think again. Velvet–whether furniture, accessories or something else entirely– is a classic look with a cool, plush feel. And it just happens to instantly warm up any room it's in.

So do it. Introduce something velvet. A sofa, an upholstered headboard, curtains, or maybe a really gargantuan anglepoise lamp. Take a cue from these real-life house tours, which each do rich velvet in their own way.
