Today's LA Times Home & Garden features a preview of some of the homes that will be participating in the 2008 Venice Garden & Home Tour. The tour is this Saturday from 10am to 5 pm. Some more pics after the jump...
The tour is a self guided walking tour of Venice homes and gardens. "The tour this year features "the other Venice" east of Lincoln Boulevard. Visitors will walk, ride or bike through peaceful streets in a neighborhood nearby but worlds away from the vibrant activity of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and the beach community. Creative gardening flourishes in this neighborhood of wide streets and generously large lots. This is a slice of the good life in Southern California where neighbors know one another, almost everyone has a dog and cats sunbathe in the warmth of porches. You'll see homes from the 20's redone with solar panels and drought-tolerant gardens, as well as traditional Craftsman and pre-war stuccos designed with contemporary interior comforts while retaining the integrity of the original structures. One of the charms of this Venice neighborhood is the pocket vegetable gardens that dot the acres where bean and celery fields were once farmed by the Japanese before World War II."
