I've never been a girly girl. Pink is often my least favorite color but add a splash of orange and I immediately start to see the appeal.
I think orange cannot completely take away the extreme femininity of pink, but it can change the nature of it. The mixture of pink and orange is exotic (think India) and vibrant. I still have yet to find the courage to decorate with the combination myself but I love it in other people's homes!

My bedroom is pink and orange and I love it!

Pink isn't a feminine color anymore than blue is a masculine color - It's just a color.
Appreciate the hunt for the many images, Sparrow. Whilst these are not colours that I have ever used in my own home, the combination makes me smile.
These look great! I love the tiny studio with the loft and ladder with drawers.
Pink IS still a feminine color. I don't know many men embracing pink in their color schemes out of choice. It's always going to be associated with women.
My daughter wanted to paint her room pink so I accented it with orange and a hint of green to keep it from being too "princessy". I love the combination.
When I was a child my favorite dress was white with an abstract pink & orange design - still love the combination! I'd be happy in any of these rooms!

Um, it's not 1962 anymore...
Many professional men now wear pink - It's the current color-trend for men's shirts on Wall Street the way French Blue was a few years back...
...I hear straight guys bragging about what they paid for their shirts at Thomas Pink all the time - and Nobody tells these guys what to wear. (They're also not concerned about what it may or may not infer about their masculinity.)
So it's just a matter of time before it seeps into their Bachelor pads too...
I 100% agree with bepsf that professional men are wearing pink (thank god, I was getting so tired of the blue dress shirt dress code!) I absolutely love the pink and orange combo (pieces inc has the cutest pink and orange cashmere peace sign pillow right now!)

I'd choose pink over purple any day :)
more to the point of pink's inherent femininity: that notion is purely a western concept. in the far east and south asia pink is a sacred color. monks were it, ordinary men wear it and in some countries the pink lotus is the state flower. pink is proven to be spiritually uplifting in general.
whether or not pink is what's making the room seem feminine is a combination of the beholder's frame of reference and the context of the room. you could certainly do a masculine pink room. but it would have to build on the gender-based color associations we already have ingrained in order to be recognized - undertones of brown, gray and blue.
that said, if you won't to balance the vibrance of a pink, use a blue based counterpoint like a purple with gray undertones. or brown or earthtones like burgundy.
love this combo so much we used it in our logo! www.shopinviting.com yay for bubbles ; )
I love pink with orange! In my opinion, a great color combination!
While it's true that pink has, in the past few years, become a 'power color,' in men's fashion, the same cannot be said for home interiors. Men choose pink shirts and ties because, as was mentioned, they like to "brag about" the cost; it's a status symbol as well as a symbol of masculinity (I'm so manly I can wear pink!). Donald Trump had a large part in making pink ties a luxury menswear staple. A pink tie from Target is not the same pink. Even so, Trump and those who wish they were Trump don't paint their walls pink.
Pink is still a feminine color in our culture, whether it offends you or not.
Love it-I write a blog all about pink and orange!

That's only because Trump doesn't use paint...
...he simply lined the 6 story lobby of the tower in Manhattan bearing his name in Pink Marble.
Yes, pink is still feminine. At least here in the west it still is. As enlightened as we might like to see ourselves as refined citizens of the aughts, there are too many enduring cultural images that clearly depict pink as girly girly. I mean, just look to Barbie, Legally Blonde, or the cover of any chick lit selection of your choice (preferably used as a backdrop to the black stiletto, lipstick, and/or cosmopolitan in a martini glass in the forefront), so see the color pink still firmly within the grip of freshly-manicured hands.
Then again, I do know some guys who get manicures. So maybe it's the dawn of a new day.
Great post! I just painted my kitchen orange (thanks to AT inspiration) and I've been trying to decide what color I want to put with it. I originally thought a bit of pink and yellow, but didn't want it to get too cutesy...so, I started thinking maybe I'd go with a light blue (saw some good combos somewhere) but this orange and pink combo is very tempting once again. Oh, and, it doesn't feel too cutesy.
Awesome! I've had this color story in my last two apartments. Is way cool and I think is very mod-sixties....
The loft bed with the fuchsia living room underneath is amazing, since I live in Manhattan I can really appreciate the form and function of this room....
Pink and orange is my favorite color combo!

I've been allergic to pink for most of my life because of the connotations - as a decidedly NOT girly girl, I wanted to prove I was different. It IS a feminine colour, even if that's 'only' a social construct.
But, I agree... less and less. I recently realised I loved this colour combo - has to be THIS pink, but I also love it with turquoise. I love it a LOT. And why shouldn't I indulge in it? Because of some silly notion that it's only for princesses? Whatever. Anyway, I'm with anniewerb! Pink over purple any day!
When I went to Thailand I was in a small village looking at some fabric to buy. I picked on out with pink in it and the woman started laughing at me. I asked what was so funny and she told me that was a material only worn by men.
