Name: Victor Caden (2 months)
Location: Portland, OR
I own a small interior design company and this project is a 50s atomic inspired nursery for our first child, Victor. Our goal was to create a fun and vibrant space where our son can create, explore and imagine.
The room features a custom mural (painted by husband and I) of the Portland skyline being invaded by ufos! We included some of our favorite buildings in portland as well as places we often frequent (i.e. fave restaurants/bars, barber shop, theaters, etc). We chose to do the mural in a series of grays with some key elements highlighted in vibrant colors, such as the space ship beam and Vic's hot rod. The mural was done with Benjamin Moore paint, 10 rolls of painters tape, card stock and A LOT of hours. A dark chalkboard wall anchors the room and provides the perfect place for photo opportunities and messages to our son. As he grows older, he will be able to utilize it to draw and create his own works of art.
We wanted a very refreshing and modern space with some vintage touches. The crib is the Babyletto crib from Target. Both the vintage rocking chair and dresser were excellent craigslist finds. The drapes and roller shades are from Ikea. We made a few felt pillows of aliens and a spaceship for the crib. We hope you enjoy!

White Enamel Flatwa...
WOW. This is incredible! Well done. I'm imagining the late late night, 6 rolls of tape in, cutting yet another window square...
Absolutely love it!
Love the use of vintage... It has a fun old-movie sort of vibe too.
And Victor is adorable too :-)
I am so deeply in love with that mural, I would hug your wall if I could. Aren't you glad I can't?
THIS rocks.
Fabulous!
So much fun!!! What a lucky boy!
Fabulous-love it!
i LOVE this nursery. more than any other nursery i've ever seen. it's offbeat and it'll grow well into the toddler and elementary years - hopefully longer! i bet little victor will brag about his room to his friends, actually.
Holy cow this is neat-o!
I just love this so much!
This is easily my favorite nursery I've seen posted on here. The mural is amazing and everything is tied together so well. Also, I am very much not one for baby pics, but the last photo is adorable.
While I have to say I often find it kind of absurd when people actually hire a designer to do a nursery/young kids' rooms (no offense, but they are just so temporary, it seems crazy wasteful to me), this room makes it very easy to see why someone would want to pay for your skills. Such a wonderful room, and with the Target/Ikea/Craigslist/DIY, it looks amazing without, presumably, breaking the bank (though I'm sure if you worked out an hourly wage and applied it to painting that mural, it would bring the cost way up!).
Awesome work.
Love the mural. That would be awesome in an adult room!
AMAZING
this is flipping awesome. lucky lucky little boy!
Amazing mural! Props to you for painting it yourselves!
I am so thinking about painting my future bathroom similarly. LOVE the idea. So freaking fun & definitely a room he will be able to grow into even as a young teen :)
My husband would LOVE this room if we had a son! It's AWESOME!
I love the originality and the fun of it all! Best of all, I love that it is the Portland skyline! Bet you could start a mural business within no time with this kind of talent!
I agree with the others that this is my favorite nursery I've ever seen on here. Or anywhere maybe. Wonder if my landlord would let me do this to the living room...
This is THE BEST nursery I've seen on A.T. It's totally my style too. I might attempt to copy this when I have a baby!
It's awesome! I love that they stuck with a monotone palette to evoke B&W movies, except for the green beam. I'm sure that some sleepless nights Victor will seem like a little monster from outer space!
SO much fun! I love the ship beaming up your adorable little guy!
OK, this is freakin awesome. And I have never said that about any nursery before.
That is the coolest mural ever. I love that is bold but still neutral.Perfect to be able to add pops of colour. And colour, oh my, I love green. I especially love the green they have chosen to accent this nursery. Great job.
pure magic!!
this is hands down the absolutely most fantastic and awesome nursery i have *EVER* seen!!!!
