Name: Victor
Location: Allston, Massachusetts
I'm a restaurant owner and bought my 340 square foot condo 4½ years ago. Soon after moving in I became obsessed with small spaces, interior design and renovation work in general. I demolished what was left of the kitchen, bath and entry way area while leaving some cool old nods to the past (original wood moldings throughout and the hot water heater I ended up painting dark maroon). I didn't have a style I was going for initially but in the end I shamelessly dubbed it Urban Industrial Cozy.
My favorite aspects of the condo are the colors, the view of Commonwealth Avenue, the milk crate chairs that roll under the coffee table(s) and the master loft I built with the wardrobe wire racks and dress bar below which left me room for a closet — filled with tools!! I think the style, flow and feel of my condo very much represents my personality and how I want to feel when entering a space. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks Victor!

Love this place! I especially dig the tile in the bathroom... I have those same colors in my "V for Vendetta" poster :)
Small spaces are hard, obviously (both to furnish and to photograph), and it's hard to get a sense of the whole place.
I like the dark painted wood molding around the door/window frames, but I'm not loving the painted crown molding. Having that bold horizontal stripe at the top of the wall makes the ceiling look lower.
The metal bar cart I think makes the space a little cluttered. Maybe a project would be to built a bar with storage underneath against that wall and leave the space above open to showcase your photos. I'm also not sure what else is there in terms of a kitchen.. does the back corner of the room have a sink/fridge?
For the bed, maybe put in some curtains or something to conceal the storage underneath?
I agree that the metal eating bar is odd - the paper towel holder??? if this is really the kitchen, too, then fine, but then dress that area more as a cooking space and not a mish mash. I think a table with storage underneath, or a fold out table of some sort, or perhaps an armoir that closes up, but when open you can fold down a table... The coffee cups. too...are odd. The space may do double duty, but cups on a simple shelf would be less distracting.
Also, the loft bed is a little juvenile. Perhaps remove the decorative paint effect by the ladder, and get some more refined bedding? Agree on a curtain to hide the storage.
Overall, it's nice space with a nice look, few tweaks will bring it to really impressive.
I like the dark trim. The small picture frames all over, seem a bit all over, which make the place look more cluttered. I'd remove a bunch of them, and at least align them somehow, so that my eyes can rest and enjoy the art.
There also seem to be too many open type containers. I think if some were solid, then you wouldn't see all the stuff.
I'm just not feeling it. Feels too cluttered to me.
I like how you hang frames at many different levels. The color scheme ties it together and keeps it from being busy even in a small space.
I also like how even before I looked I knew this was an apartment in Allston. The east coast really has a sense of place.
I love the grey colour on your walls and the beautiful wooden flooring. You also have some great art.
I agree with Holiday on the bed being juvenile. It looks very military and without being rude I doubt very much you'd get laid in this bedroom. I'd get a new bed and some storage with doors to conceal all your mans things.
A few tweaks to that bedroom and you'll be there.
I think it's a very creative use of space. Obv. a creative mind at work. Did you make the little under table rolling cart seats yourself?
this is inspiring to all small space owners. thank you for posting.
it looks like a guy lives here ... i like it.
Absolutely looks as if a guy lives here! A nice change from the usual (nothing personal, women-friends!) because, try as I might, I never quite pull off that "feminine touch", and I always end up feeling that my place lacks something, rather than 'it is what it is'.
I can't get over the exposed cord in the bathroom. It is bugging me...
If I went over to a guy's condo and it looked like that, I'd never go back. Sorry Victor.
Hey Victor good job with personalizing it and working with such a small space.
I agree about the photos. There are too many small ones randomly plaed. A bigger grouping of them would be much more interesting. I also agree that the kitchen bar area looks top heavy. I would remove the top section, and maybe add some Ikea lack or metal shelves directly to the wall. This would give a much cleaner look without losing the storage space.
A curtain around the closet area, under the bed would also help declutter, and would give the bed more presence.
I love that this place looks real and lived in. I can totally sympathize with having a small place with lots of things to hang on the wall-- that's what my last apartment was like.
I get a lot of inspiration from the house tours on AT, but I'm often left feeling inadequate because I do have "clutter"-- the stuff I use every day! I'd love to see more house tours like this-- stylish yet real and obviously lived in and usable.
The ladies don't seem to love it too much, LOL! I think it's great though - a couple little tweaks and it would be truly spectacular.
Kudos to you working with such a small place - your refined palette really helps. Great color choices. I assume the kitchen is through one of those curtains and quite tiny, explaining the need for the little island. The only thing I would change is the bed - at least hang a tailored curtain around that thing if you insist on having it that high and full of stuff! The rest of your place is so well designed but the bed area definitely has a no-girls-allowed boys-fort vibe, ha ha.
I like the metro shelving used as a kitchen/bar area - good use of the space. The sitting area is nice, too, especially the windows. I would probably add another dash of red with a throw pillow or the lamp shade. I enjoyed the tour, thanks for sharing!
This is the most masculine place I have seen posted on AT and I love it for that! For this gal, it is like wild kingdom - "we are observing the habitat of the male homo sapien." I don't understand alot of it (what is that wall paper thing going on in the bathroom?), but I don't really expect to.
And why would he need a kitchen? I am sure there is a propane torch in the tool box to cook that steak with.
It looks like a guy lives here.
The bed reminds me of undergrad. I wouldn't expect the ladies to want to climb up there.
I do appreciate the fact that this isn't something I've seen before on AT.
Wow, this makes MY bad "man cave" look good.
Sorry, but it reminds me too much of a poorly kept dorm room. Way too much Ikea. And is there really only one couch and two bar stools for seating?
I think if you could apply the same design sense that's in the bathroom, your place would be very inviting.
Have to agree with everyone else though...the bed is very much like a dorm room.
The bathroom is fantastic, and I appreciate the difficulty of working with a small Allston space. Overall, I think the space looks like a Pottery Barn teen ad.
hey, not every guy's place needs to look like the poster habitat for the urban metrosexual. i don't even mind the bed (although could be hazardous for 2...heheh). the only thing i'd change is the art placement (too artfully random for me) and the black toilet seat. thanks for sharing!
I'd paint the walls a lighter shade to brighten things up a little and get a new bedspread ;) Other than that, I like the thought and effort that's gone into this space. V cool.
Looks like a work of art to me......we are opinionated to say the least, why you'd think some of us were moving in with you today...lol...what a great use of space. well planed!
