Early last year, we saw Hong Kong architect Gary Chang's incredible accordian apartment in the New York Times. But with all of those sliding walls and hidden uses, what's really impressive is to see it in motion:
In this clip from Reuters, we see Chang showing off his 340s.f. apartment in all of its shifting, yellow-hued glory.
What do you think? Would this suit you? What could you not live with? We're pretty much on board except for the yellow cast from the tinted windows.

I really hate the yellow tint, but I like almost everything else!
He has a good point about being alone--I couldn't do this because I live with my husband, but if I were alone, I don't see why I couldn't! In fact, the only thing I can imagine having an issue with is how neat you would have to be--leave one little thing on the floor and you can't switch to the next room. Love the hammock.
Had I devised this, I would love it. However, I like a bit of frou frou in my living space. I'm wondering why he'd need 24 different rooms.
I wish i had the time, money, and know-how (that's really all it takes?!) to do some of this. For now I have a few idea, that I'll hopefully execute in the new year or two.
Amazing! As a kid, he must have played a lot with transformers.
It really wouldn't take as much money as you think if you did the Work yourself yourself. I mean, you could make it expensive, but if you used solid, but less expensive materials it wouldn't be that hard.
I actually love the idea, and have been on the lookout for a space to do something similar in around here, but it is surprisingly hard to find a space that small, and when I find one it has a huge premium kind of defeating the purpose for me.
I don't want to play with my home like one huge Transformer gadget. I want to live in it, graciously. This is a fascinating project from a space use standpoint, but it's not my idea of a "home".
He seems happy with it, and it's a great idea for saving space.
My one question: where's the toilet, and does that tuck away too? Haha.
Thank goodness he lives alone. I don't see how this would work very well for anyone else living with him.
Better video on depicting the apartment (and different) is on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg9qnWg9kak
