What I Love About My Small Home:
There are so many things I love! For one thing, I love that my tiny home expands outside, blurring the boundary between inside and out. With skylights, french doors and lots of windows, I have a view of nature from all directions. I also have a large deck that doubles my living space, where I can dine and entertain many guests.
I also love that my interior allows for multiple uses. With my multi-purpose furniture, my "great room" functions as a dining room, living room, guest bed, media room, and yoga room. The sofa is a bed and has storage. The portable coffee table can be used for storage/dining/side table.
My kitchen is large and functional, and taking a shower is a joy with a view of the trees from the window. But my favorite is watching the moon and the stars at from my bedroom loft!
Lastly, I love that my house has minimal impact on the earth by being off the grid. I use solar panels, propane gas, greywater system and passive solar heating and cooling.
Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space:
1- Light! Provide lots of windows, doors and skylights strategically located to let natural light inside.
2- Maximize the perception of space. Maximize the height and use an open floor plan as much as possible. A vaulted ceiling combined with a skylight makes the space feel expansive.
3- Use multi-functional furniture to achieve multiple uses of the space.
