As part of our series of posts predicting the direction kitchen design will take in 2017, we're taking a close look at appliances in particular. As part of a general trend towards kitchens with a more storied, old-world look, we're seeing the rise of what I like to call 'statement appliances' — ovens and refrigerators and range hoods that either are vintage (or look vintage) and fixtures that, instead of attempting to blend in, draw the eye and become a focal point of the kitchen.
An AGA stove makes a beautiful statement in a kitchen from A+B Kasha.
In this kitchen from New Zealand Design Blog, a modern range hood (and a beautiful marble backsplash) pair beautifully with an attention-getting vintage-style yellow oven.
Here's another vintage-style stove paired with a modern range hood, this one from Residence Magazine.
The La Cornue oven (and that massive range hood!) are the focal point of this kitchen from Marie Claire Maison.
This stove from The Style Files is the perfect accent in an all-white kitchen.
From Vosges Paris, another AGA stove, also paired with a modern range hood. Pairing a vintage-style stove with modern style cabinets and a range hood creates a lovely contrast, and keeps your kitchen from feeling like a time capsule.
In this kitchen from deVOL, a vintage stove is paired with shaker cabinets and an apron-front sink, but the light colors and open feel keep everything from being too heavy.
A lovely stove and range hood pairing in a kitchen from My Domaine.
Although the style is not quite as vintage as some of the ones pictured above, this stove in a kitchen from Milk Decoration is still a focal point of the room.
This classic stove from Big Chill's 1900 series is a bit more affordable than some of the ones pictured above (although admittedly still quite pricey).
While it's been around for quite some time, the Smeg refrigerator (like this red one in a kitchen from That Nordic Feeling) fits very neatly into the statement appliances trend — vintage-styled and statement making.
