After coming across this clever and practical reuse of a vintage mail sorter, I almost wish I lived in a climate cold enough where I would need all my mittens and scarves handy by the door!
This 1970s mail sorter from the Natick, Massachusetts Post Office was purchased on the cheap on Craigslist. It had previously been used to store wine bottles, but now serves a new function as a mudroom organizer for a full family assortment of winter wear. I think the small shelves would also be perfect for things that normally get lost in the mix, like keys, wallets, sunglasses and — what else? — incoming and outgoing mail.

Love this ! it would certainly encourage mitten shopping.
Oooh, I want. For all my San Francisco scarves.
I'd give anything to have this! I have a gazillion outdoor play clothes for winter including about a dozen handmade wool earflap hats and about a dozen snowboarding mitts and gloves. Not to mention ear muffs, scarves and had knit mittens. This would be SO ideal.
I love this piece. Seeing as I live in the desert I don't think I could use it for the same purpose... I'm wondering, though, if wine bottles would fit into the slots???
Wine bottles: it was originally used for wine storage.
Thats handy...wish I had one of those lying around!
