Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I can't begin my day without a pot of coffee, a slice of toast, and my morning radio programs. Regardless of whether or not you listen through the air waves or stick to your trusty iPod, old radios can be a great way to add some vintage charm to any room in your home.
Etsy is a great source for vintage radios to use in vignettes on bookcases, in the kitchen, or on a dresser. At an affordable pricepoint, they are nice to look at, and many of them are still good for listening as well.

I'm listening to my fave morning radio show right now on my Studebaker Transistor radio. It's actually new, but looks vintage. It's so cute and handy.
Proof that not all things "vintage" are cute. Sorry, but I look at most of those and just think of my grandparents' houses...and not in a good way. A few of them are okay though.
I love the look of a vintage radio, especially in the kitchen. I've been on a request to find the perfect one for mine, but I just haven't stumbled across it yet.
Thanks for including some thriftier choices in the mix, too.
Ha, it's funny you should say that, elankat, I was just thinking that almost all of these look better than the boring, samey radio/stereo system designs you can buy nowadays!
i also like the brand new retro radios from tivoli audio, and the old school braun radios.
I totally agree Lotti. I think these have such a beautiful design it's almost art. so much better than the ugly black or silver stereo systems they make now. I wish new stereos still looked like this. My uncle collects vintage radios and I think they look great in his house.
Great, just when I am trying to curb my Etsy addiction along come these cute little radios!
Gorgeous radios! I've seen lots of amazing vintage radios at garage sales lately, and then I plug them in/test them and they don't work. It's always so sad!

I got a vintage radio on eBay for $20, shipping included. It's absolutely adorable and keeps me company in the kitchen.
If only I could find something decent to listen to in the morning. Besides "zoos" and NPR, not much to choose from, even in a major market.

I never said that I like current stereos or that all vintage radios look bad. I just happen to find most of the ones pictured in this post attractive. Then again, I'm quite sure a lot of posters would swoon over my grandfather's ugly old CB, which I don't find attractive or fondly nostalgic either. Number 6 in particular makes me cringe. It brings back memories of trips in wood paneled station wagons. Ugh.
That should read "most of the ones pictured in this post unattractive."
As cool as these are, ar word of caution; many tube based vintage radios have pure dc current flowing through the chassis ("hot chassis").
Do not try to fix one yourself.
Tubes are easy to replace (not much different then a light bulb), but never plug one up with the case/cover opened.
I have my black Sony transistor radio (similar size to #3) that I received as a birthday gift in the mid '70s. 35 years later and it still works great! It uses either electricity or batteries and gets a workout during baseball season. When the big earthquake hits, my trusty radio will still work ! I saw an exact copy (in better shape) in Goodwill a few months ago and was almost tempted into buying it...
I love wood-paneled station wagons.
To that end, I bought this for my office recently: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882720054&Tpk=sangean%20WR-11
