Heading out of town this weekend? It's supposed to be a beautiful couple of days. We recently rounded up some favorite sources for vintage furniture in town, but sometimes you have the time (and the zipcar) to get out of the city and do a little "treasure hunting". Here are a few sources for vintage furnishings that are do-able as a day trip from Chicago:

The Furniture Lounge in Champaign, about 2 hours from Chicago, is freaking awesome. I've furnished most of my apartment (on a grad student budget) with their bargain mid-C stuff. And, to illustrate how worthwhile they are, that includes 2 (two!) Selig rip-offs of Eames recliners, for less than $200 each.

I really can't say enough how awesome the Furniture Lounge is.

Atomic Interiors in Madison has a great back room full of mid century finds the owners collect from estate sales around the Midwest. They're only open Friday-Sunday, but are worth a trip.

The Furniture Lounge has a depot/warehouse in the Urbana DT mall which has drool-worthy stuff. There's a cool houseware's store in the mall too - very reasonably priced too.

Blue Island, on the southside of Chicago has some awesome antique stores on Old Western Ave. Definitely worth checking out as a day trip :)
