Name: Violet (8 months)
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Division: Single Room
Room Size: 70 Square Feet
Tip for Living Small with Kids: Don't feel as though everything has to be "for kids" specifically, as long as items are safe, they can utilize "big peoples" things -like the Indian poufs we choose-for those living in small spaces this gives the parents another place to enjoy--it can belong to the family, at least in the early stages. When you only have a few rooms, every space counts!
Biggest Design Challenge in this Room: It was tough to find furniture that not only was lean, but looked lean in the space. The room also looked long and squat, so wallpapering the ceiling really opened up the space and gave my daughter something to stare at while lying in crib-a memory I hope she always carries with her.
Favorite Thing About This Room: I love that our family is represented not just by pictures, but by their things--my father's childhood dresser from his NYC apt--made small to fit his 50 sq. ft. room, my great-grandma's mirror that is as beautiful as she was, art done by my mother--it has a lot of meaning.
Thanks for your entry Edie and good luck!
