Virgin Media: A Fast Modem Gets a Shiny Makeover

It's been a while since we've seen a networking item worth blogging about. We love what Belkin has done with their N1 Vision Wireless Router and N+ Wireless Router, but as far as modems go, we've always thrown them into a dark corner of our homes and were ashamed of even letting it see the day of light. Virgin Media looks to change all of that, and with the introduction of their sleek new 50Mbps cable modem, they're starting to make us believe that just because it lacks more than one function, it doesn't have to skimp on the design department.

The modem boasts high end specs for its not-so-high-end plastic glossy finish.

  • DOCSIS 3.0/DOCSIS 3.0 Operation
  • DOCSIS/DOCSIS 1.0/1.1/2.0 Compatible
  • Supports four channel bonding
  • Ethernet Interface (RJ-45)(10/100/1000 Mbps compatible

A fairly impressive package which we applaud Virgin Media for putting together. Could it be the end of grey blinking boxes? We certainly hope so. We'll finally be able to comfortably take it out of our closets and allow it to complement our decor without worries.

No date on the release of the modem nor will you be able to take advantage of the blazing speeds unless you have a really, really fast internet service provider in your area.
