- Inspiration for my palette:
- My first "grown up" dishes were chartreuse Fiesta Ware. 10+ years later I still love them, but a whole kitchen that color would be a bit much (even for me). Besides, I wanted a warm kitchen/dining area and went with a rich paprika. I love how the unexpected wall color contrasts with the green accents; in addition to the dishes is an apple green mixer and our oven (which we had custom painted by an auto body shop!)

- Paprika, chartreuse, greys and natural woods

- I just don't think you can go wrong if you start with something you really love. That way, even if it's not everybody's taste, you'll be happy with the results. After all, it's your place so if you love it that's all that matters!

You might think I'm being overly dramatic, but this is the most wonderful room I've ever seen. No lie, I got goosebumps at picture two.
The pallette is very similar to my kitchen, and after 3 years it hasn't gotten old. Every day I love it more. Nice work, Viveca!
Love it. Color me jealous.
I don't believe in formal dinning rooms, and this kitchen has pushed all of my buttons. Nicely done!!
Way to be bold! I've always loved orange and green together, and I dream of someday having a kitchen/dining layout like this.
Do you have plans for the wall space above the counter? Because I bet some oversized artwork or some kind of funky paint treatment would be amazing there.
Well done!
Oh, I'm dying over here. Those tall ceilings, brick wall, huge dining table, and the colors! Makes me hate my builder grade condo galley kitchen more and more.
The brick wall + The wood ceiling and cabinetry+ the apple green oven=perfection.
I am sort of at a loss with how much I love this kitchen space. It is so elegant and chic as hell, yet inviting... so industrial and raw, yet so refined. Je love.
LOVE IT!
Gorgeous! Where is your place? Is it one of the lofts down on Washington?
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. It's just so perfectly balanced with the right amount of each color to work with the large space. I love the use of wood tones and the darker wall color to make it feel cozy, and the pops of green are genius.
Total WIN. Aw, now I'm all jealous of your taste and skill. That's ok, I'll look at it some more and that'll put me back in a good mood!
I love this kitchen--well done! Any plans for an oversized art piece on the brick wall?
My opinion of this is tainted by my own experience as a designer. I can't get past the feeling that if you swapped the cat out for a French Bulldog, you'd be looking at the Kozmo.com employee lunch room circa 1999.
AT please, please, PLEASE do a house tour of this place. If just the one room looks this awesome, I can't even imagine how amazing the rest looks!!
I really detest orange, but somehow, this is my favorite entry so far! What an inviting space. Vey jealous.
This is one of those rooms you can really appreciate even though it's not to your taste.
How on earth do people find places like this to live in? Gosh! It is spectacular. I want to have my morning coffee in that room. I want to see the kids do their homework at that table... it is just gorgeous.
I just keep coming back to look at it.
love, love, love!
Mid-C Frank approves.
Thanks for the great comments!
@ellenchristine: we're in the ONSL neighborhood of St Louis
As for the brick wall; I'm on the fence about hanging a clock, some kind of wall art or a hood vent over the stove.
Has a strong character and retro vibe. I loved it. Still, I think, lighting-wise the room is pretty dull. The general lighting waay up on the ceiling flattens and kills the space. Some low-hanging ceiling lamps and controlled spot lighting would bring out the elements better.
LOOOOOOVE the painted oven! I dislike almost all appliances these days - so dull, and just cheap white or higher end stainless as options. Nice to see some color!
The rest of the room is great, too, but the painted oven will be in my dreams.
Viveca, your taste is impeccable but it's hard for me to imagine this space could/would be improved by something on the brick wall. Somehow, that unadorned space feels like a very important part of the whole picture.
I'm with whoever said, above, they just keep coming back to look at this! It's just spectacular!
Hey, do you mind if I ask about how much it costs to have appliances painted by auto guys?
Not to be unkind, and to each his own...but this reminds me of a large employee's lunch room.
@Annie-O
I seem to recall it was around $200 to have the oven painted, but that included having the paint custom mixed to match our Kitchenaid mixer. They said it would be less if we went with a color they had left over from painting a car. I hope that helps :-)
