I really wanted Vivien's room to be colorful and playful, but fun and stylish at the same time. After all, for the first few years anyway, we'll be spending more time noticing the decor than she does.
The look I was going for was "sun after a rainstorm" - you know when there's a really heavy summer rainstorm, and after the rain stops the sun shines more intensely than usual, really igniting the color of everything? The dark grey walls (Benjamin Moore's "Rock Gray") really make all the intense colors pop. And with such a wide variety of colors, I didn't have to worry about matching things.
My favorite pieces in the room are the ones that were saved from when I was a child: the patchwork quilt on the crib was made by a family friend for me when I was born; the puffy blanket on the chair was my "blankie" as a kid; and the original Strawberry Shortcake trash can (now vintage, I guess. Which means I'm old. Sigh).
The paper cranes and the mobile over the crib were made by friends and family at our baby shower, which makes me smile when they flutter and entertain Vivien.
