Escaping to Portland this month? If so, you might want to check out the Willamette Week's guide to Stumptown's secret design gems. Neatly grouped by neighborhood for pedestrian and bicycle-friendliness, we like that they picked out everything from the lobby of a financial firm to an insurance office, cathedral and one of our all-time favorite purveyors of grilled cheese.
While the majority of the newspaper's list was familiar, we're most excited about being pointed in the direction of Beauty Sleep, a B&B that sounds straight out of a John Waters flick. According to the article, each suite comes "stocked with a collection of vintage nightgowns, robes, boudoir slippers, costume jewelry, fur stoles and wigs so you can play dress-up." Crazy, a teensy bit creepy and utterly Portland.
For another unconventional guide to the Rose City, we highly recommend checking out Chuck Palahniuk's "Fugitives and Refugees," which definitely gave this native some new inspiration.
