In the mudroom or the kids' room, wall-mounted open storage is a panacea for limited square footage and insufficient closet space. It also brings home the preschool wisdom that every child has their cubby and every coat has its hook, which helps kids (and grownups) to develop a sense of responsibility and ownership in maintaining an organized environment.
There are options for every style and budget. Here are some of our favorites:
• Industrial Numbered Cubby Shelf - Restoration Hardware Baby & Child, $159
• STÄLL Hat Rack - IKEA, $49.99
• Cutter Collection by Skagerak - Fjorn, $28-$785
• Prepac Sonoma Cubbies - Amazon, $94.99
• Chartreuse Wall Magazine Rack, Wall Bookshelf, Hide n' Seek Storage, Metal High Gloss Clover Coat Rack, Wire 3+3 Organizer - all from CB2, $24.95-$249

Shaw's Original Fir...
We've been trying to convince my mom to turn one of her two front closets into a "hook nook" with a bench for putting on shoes and coat hooks for easy hanging. The first wire one is great, something I might try if I ever get my own office.
I love the prepac sonoma cubbies! When I move, I'd like to get a set, paint them whatever neutral or pastel goes with all that nifty decor that I haven't decided on yet, and maybe stick a separate key hook on the side. I am notorious for losing keys.
