Q: On a recent episode of Gossip Girl there was a design on a wall (photo attached, apologies it isn't the best but I've been searching everywhere for a photo of the design!). I'm trying to track down where I could get something similar and hoping you or your readers might have an idea.
Originally, I thought it was birds, but upon looking at the photo closer it appears it may actually be butterflies? I'm not quite sure, either way I like how they have it arranged and would love to create a similar look. Appreciate any ideas or suggestions!

Editor: It looks a bit like wallpaper by Trove - can anyone provide an exact ID or have any info to share?

I'm fairly certain that its not a wallpaper. I think it is many small butterflies glued or pinned in that pattern on the wall.
It looks kind of like those Umbra magnetic wallflower things — They have some shaped like dragonflies, flowers, etc. Here is an example:

It's a Paul Villinsky Butterfly sculpture: http://www.paulvillinski.com/artwork/beercan.html - gorgeous!!
Yes, a sculpture by Paul Villinski. (i know that cause i designed his website, heehee)
Yes! I loved this sculpture as well. So much inspiration on this show- great set designers (:
Wow, those Paul Villinski sculptures are breathtaking!
I agree its a 3 dimensional arrangement or sculpture but...I was looking thru the wonderful Stencil Library site and they have a wonderful bird stencil that would give a similar look, very fluid and full of movement. The site is in England but seems to be easily devised for purchasing from our side of the seas.
wall mounted butterflies
I was reminded very much of an artist who is currently obsessed with butterflies. He decorated a house in Germany (the town where I live in) with thousands of butterflies.
This is not my blog, but the pictures are the best I could find. The artist is Mark Köschinger and the house easily the most decrepit in the whole town.

I've seen something very similar to those (3d butterflies to mount on the wall) sold at Target. I think they may have been white or silver, but several sets of those arranged on the wall would be essentially the same thing. Not sure if they still carry them though.
I saw that too and just loved it. I have some umbra bird 'wall art' that I got at Target. And I have some bird decals that I got on line. I have considered trying to 're create' this look, using birds, rather than the butterflies. However, I have one other suggestion. There is a modeling clay that you can get, that you 'bake' to harden. You could (inexpensively) make some birds or butterflies and then bake them. Then attach them to the wall with velcro, or something like that. It would not be costly, but it would take some time.
I've seen this done a lot over the past 4 years. It's just those feather butterflies that come in packages of like 10. They are indeed either pinned or glued to the wall.
Didn't someone make something like this out of recycled aluminum pop cans? I remember seeing it here on AT but not sure where it is...
Urban Outfitters sells these "Wallflowers" that could create a similar look for less.
The link was too long to paste. Go to urbanoutfitters.com and search "Set of 25 Wallflower Wall Decor"
I think they are actually little sculptures made by Umbra that tack to the wall. I have white flowers covering the wall in my bedroom, and you can find them on amazon. I don't see the butterflies, but this is a step in the right direction! Good luck! http://tinyurl.com/2banlv7

Hi, that last link is actually to my shop on Etsy. :)
If you're interested in these, I make paper butterflies in a variety of colors for wall decoration, and can take custom orders if you need a color not shown on my shop.
