We have commitment issues when it comes to wallpaper, but we really wanted to incorporate the lovely Ferm "Feathers" wallpaper into our house. Inspired by the photo above — from Trine's "Sneak Peek" on design*sponge — we decided to wallpaper the area behind our built-in desk. Jump below to see the results.
The project was pretty easy, with just some measuring (and re-measuring) and some cuts with the utility knife. Oh, and double-sided tape. That's right: We adhered the wallpaper with tape. So we skipped the extra work — and commitment — associated with pasting wallpaper.
(Please excuse all of the wires in the photo. We're still in the process of settling into the house. And, no, we don't plan to keep two phones on the desk. )

yes would have done under the desk too... but you can always do it if you think about it later right. i want something like this now.

bepsf - There actually are grommets. I just haven't gotten around to cord-management yet. Soon though!
And everyone else who has chimed in - You know, I didn't even think to wallpaper under the desk! Maybe I thought the chair would cover that anyway. I still have wallpaper left, so will take your advice.

I love this idea, but I really wish the final photo showed the space as it's going to be used, and that the quality of the photo were higher. Otherwise, congratulations on this cute change!
visualingual - Good points. Since we just moved in, the office hasn't been completely unpacked. Okay, not even halfway unpacked.
Maybe I'll post again once we're more settled -- and after I put up wallpaper in the "kneehole" area (as bepsf referred to it). Also, I took the photo in the evening, so the lighting was indeed pretty bad.
Double sided tape?!? Genius! Is that really strong enough to hold it into place semipermanently? Or will it start to peel back slowly... please update in the future =)
Hrmm, may have to consider this method... do you think that would hold for wallpaper on a 4 x 9 wall?

Clever idea, and it looks great! Would love to see a photo of the final set-up, too.
Think in bathrooms (if it's not a powder room or WC)...the moisture would eventually get to the double stick and possibly make the paper curl. I wonder if a very light spraying of photomount would work? Short term (a few weeks) it always seems to peel off fairly easily...but long term?)

I can attest to moisture affecting tape--the caps over the wood blinds both popped off due to humidity.

More info on the specifics of how you hung this would be greatly appreciate! I heart that inspiration picture as well, but as a renter I'm not allowed to wall paper.
SydneyBristow - The trickiest part of the project was measuring everything. I basically worked left to right -- cutting out the pieces on the left side first, then cutting the next panel so that the pattern lined up. (I laid out the panels on my floor to see how they would look.) Then I applied the tape to the edges of the wallpaper panels and just stuck up 'em. That was it. Since the panels aren't that big, I'm hoping the tape will hold up. We'll see!
I want to know how to make a desk like that. How is it supported? I love it.
