If you're having trouble sleeping at night, the answer may not be a better bed, softer sheets, or even black-out curtains for your room... in fact, what you might actually need is more sun during your waking hours.
According to research findings published in the professional industry journal Sleep, more natural light exposure during the day resulted in more restful sleep at night. Workers with office windows were exposed to 173% more natural white light and slept an average of 46 more minutes per night, compared to workers in windowless offices.
Even if you have no choice but to be stuck in a windowless environment, all is not lost; you can increase your exposure simply by taking a walk in the morning before you arrive at work.
Though the study is too small to be definitive, it does seem to confirm what we've known all along: sunlight contributes to better quality of life.
