Warehouses Beautified with Cinder Blocks

While some warehouses are naturally beautiful, others—like these in Shanghai—weren't until a recent renovation. In addition to reworking the interior, the exterior was transformed with ordinary cinder blocks in a parametric and flowing wall.

Three such fabric warehouses were recently transformed into an completely unique complex by Archi Union Architects. The exterior of the structure is most striking: it now showcases an undulating skin, inspired by the former use of the warehouses. The cement skin allows daylight to flow into the walls of the inside structure, concealing what is an art studio with several rooms and an office.
