If you are already familiar with washi tape then you know the instant gratification that comes from using it. I currently have many rolls of washi tape lying around from gift wrapping and holiday decorating, and have been thinking that I'm ready to take on a washi makeover project.
This Japanese decorative masking tape is brilliant: tape here, tape there, tape everywhere, and quickly reap the benefits of a fresh new look. You can use it to dress up just about anything: walls, canvases, books, pottery...the possibilities are endless. I'm looking for some inexpensive wall art to makeover my bedroom, and I've been inspired by this simply gorgeous washi tape wall art. Here are five great ideas for decorating with washi tape:
1. Create a new look for your bedroom with DIY washi tape wall art. (via House to Home)
2. Make a fresh, bright wall photo or inspiration display using neon washi tape. (via decor8)
3. Upgrade some simple jars by decorating them with washi tape. Place them on a windowsill on running down a dining room table. (via A Creative Mint)
4. Turn a bland fridge (or wall) into a colorful display using washi tape magnets. (via Atypical Type A)
5. Makeover a solid white table with a washi tape design. (via Nauli)

Shaw's Original Fir...
How lovely! And I was just looking for a way to decorate my bottle centerpieces for my upcoming wedding. This is perfect!
That table is amazing...what a creative use!
These are great. Love learning something new. the last desk is particularly compelling.
I've never heard of this before, but I like it! A question, though: is it hard to get off? Does it take paint off?
I love these instant gratification projects! Where can I get this Washi tape?
There's some Washi tape sold @ Amazon -- no surprise there.
@SPIKELE Washi tape is made with a low tack adhesive making it really easy to position, reposition and remove. We've found it safe on painted surfaces though it's probably best to do a test if you're planning on leaving it on for a long time just in case. That being said, I've had some strips of washi tape on my kitchen wall which have been there since last March - they remove easily without leaving any residue and still are stick enough to reposition and reuse.
In terms of stickiness, it's a bit like masking tape - actually, it's known as masking tape in Japan - but a whole lot prettier and made of high quality rice paper.
@SPIKELE You can buy it on Etsy (as well as Amazon) and I've put it on my walls before and it comes off easily without taking the paint off, so far! :)
I love Washi tape!!! I have a roll of hot pink I got recently from Kinokuniya here in NYC. I'm going to do a few of these projects.
i used washi tape for an 18x24 painting to go in my living room. just taped a bunch of diagonal overlapping stripes until i was satisfied the canvas was covered and didn't look too lopsided...then painted inside of each little taped off area (using the same 4 colors of paint i was painting various walls inside the apartment)...let it all dry (after a few coats) and peel the tape off. you have nice white lines separating each painted area and it looks fantastic.
i've used this method a few times before, but i'm just starting to get it perfected so the paint doesn't bleed under the tape.
