Reader Robin wrote us with this easy but very useful, time-saving home hack. Instead of searching for all those little baby socks after you do the laundry- stick them all in a mesh laundry bag before you throw them in.
Robin writes, "Put all the socks in a zippered mesh lingerie bag before throwing them in the washing machine; that way they will all stay together and none will get lost in the laundry Bermuda triangle."
We've been doing this for a while as well, and it really does keep them together. We just hang it by our daughter's laundry bin and toss in her socks each night. AND...we found a second use for that mesh lingerie bag. We use it to keep her entertained- kind of like a giant "Can you find..." bag. We put a bunch of different objects inside and let her explore and slowly take each one out as she sees it through the mesh. At 16 months, this is an activity she seems to enjoy.

If you have a front-loading washer, this is a MUST -- small items like baby socks can get caught in the seal/draining mechanism.
This is so simple and so genius! I literally just smacked myself in the forehead for not thinking of it before!
I do this as well. I just wish that I had thought of it before losing tons of baby socks.
I do this, too. I share a laundry basket with my son and wash my delicates along with his socks in the mesh bag.

Really? I thought that's just..how you washed socks? Didn't think it was a new concept
I've been doing this since my fist was little - I put two hooks on the side of the kid's dresser and hung the mesh bag there. Once they are able, they put the socks in the bag themselves when changing clothes. Only hubby refuses to remember to follow the system so we still end up with the stray lost kid sock. :(
I keep the mesh bag in the hamper, so as I toss in the dirty clothes, I can put the little socks directly into the mesh bag so they are all there on wash day. Same with my delicates in my own hamper.
