Choosing a Water Filter for Your Shower

Purchasing a water filter for your shower head may seem a little overboard, but you would be surprised to discover the difference it makes. Living in a larger city, the water quality can be less than optimal. A couple of years ago we broke down and purchased the water filter for the shower after many days of dry skin and friends telling us our skin smelled of chlorine.

It may sound like an unnecessary bathroom purchase, but the filters are not that expensive and the results are worth everything. We can personally attest that after installation, our skin felt less dry, our hair softer, and using one decreases scale accumulation in the shower (less cleaning!). The best result, however, is not smelling like a public pool after we take a shower. Once we started seeing results, we became addicted to the shower filter and it is now something we can't live without.

The water filters last 6 months on average before a replacement is needed and cost between $10-$45 each. The filter is easy to install and some have multiple water pressure settings. Taking a shower with the new filter is now our luxury "me time."

Three Different Options for Shower Water Filters:

  • Aquasana AQ-4100 Shower Filter: We personally own this particular water filter and it has worked great. If you purchase the filter from the Aquasana website, it costs $67.99 and the replacement filters cost $42.00.
  • "Royale" All-In-One Filter: We have not personally used this brand, but are drawn to its compact nature with the shower head and filter combined. It can be found online at the Shower Filter Store for $49.95.

  • The Monsoon OxyRain with April Shower Filtration: The shower filter has a sleek look and has an adjustable arm and 54 powerful spray nozzles. It looks really cool, but may be just as effective as one of the other shower filters. It can be purchased at The Shower Filter Store for $114.95.
