Design: "Water" Noren
Materials: Organa silk
Designer: Hiroshi Jashiki
"Textile has been my constant passion and inspiration. The images that I create on fabrics--ideas that primarily come from nature and landscapes --naturally suggest functional aspects. In the particular case of “Water," first I felt movement in the image. Second, though I used many shades of blue, ecru and white, there is something pristine and clear about the resulting fabric. "

"From this I envisioned a product that is simple, translucent, moves, and which should be seen from both sides. I thought of the noren, which is a curtain for the walkway between rooms. The noren, or noren curtain, typically is used to create a visual transition between rooms or vestibule. Although the fabric is semi-transparent - often time sheer fabrics are used - it lends some privacy to the space.
“Water” noren will sway with the memory of peoples' passage. How romantic."

Shaw's Original Fir...
I really love the noren! It's beautiful and functional. For those of us with limited wall space it's a great way to incorporate art into our lives and also provides privacy without totally blocking light from a room with a door. And it doesn't take up any floor space! I've never seen one like "Water" before. Fabulous!
Love this! Kind of a contempaoraty take on traditional wood block prints... Nice!
