For as long as we can remember, container gardens made from watering troughs have stolen our heart. It doesn't matter how many newfangled self-watering products hit the market, there's just something about their industrial look when combined with beautiful plants that gets us every time.
These tubs can be found at your local farm and feed store. We found these for $75 at Do It Best, though we're sure there's a store near you that you might find a better price break on.
Not only do they raise the height of your garden, but they'll keep their looks for years to come. If you could create a raised bed, or container garden in anything you wish, what would your ultimate choice be?

I love those troughs too - old and rustic, or new and modern - either way, I think they're fantastic and easy...
If I had room and could find an old one, I'd plant in a canoe.
If you love a stationary trough you'll love this immensely clever trough-as-garden-gate:

What's even more clever about it, than just the design, is how the home owners used it to get around a rule that "gates" can only be six feet high.
I just got back from purchasing two of these at the Tractor Supply Co. My husband and I had purchased some slightly ugly cedar log beds from Lowe's, but then I saw this post and we instantly had a new plan. They will fit in well in our Philadelphia back yard because our other containers are a mishmosh of galvanized steel wash bins and terracotta planters. The only downside is that they are deep and require alot of soil, but otherwise I think they'll be awesome!
Do you have to drill holes in the bottom of these or are they good to go as is?
