Q: I have a passion for interior design and I'm doing it on a dime because I am young and trying to save much of my income. I am also new to decorating and DIY-ing, but I am decorating a new apartment. Most of my furniture is white and from Ikea, since I live in a basement apartment without much light and don't want dark furniture to darken the room…
To my point: I also got some organization products from the Container Store. For my desk area I bought this cute drawer in white, because the other colors were too harsh for my taste.
I would like to decorate, paint, decoupage or whatnot to add a color pattern in a mild way. So far my desk is white, I have a white shelf and a white file organizer with blue/aqua folders and blue/aqua pen cups. As much as I would love to experiment, my budget doesn't have much wiggle room. Any hints or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I would take wood grain contact paper and use that to wrap the outside of the drawer leaving only the drawer fronts white. It would add some texture but still have the classic white feel. Plus it should go well with the aqua
Try this for the top. Then swap the handles for some prettier knobs/handles (from a hardware/thrift store)
Try using some decorative rope or something similar to this to trim the edges: http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/B23888324_046_m1
Using the earthy yet fresh colours will bring some texture and interest to the bland white.
