Welcome to week four of our August Color Cure. This week I want to touch on how to inject color into your home in easy and changeable ways. This is lower commitment stuff for those who want to tread lightly, but it's also for great for those who like to make changes often or seasonally. So, watch the video above and then experiment with tips in this lesson for the rest of the week. Want to get this in an email as well? Sign up on the Color Cure Home Page.
This Week's Assignment
This week I want you to try changing or injecting color into one room in small ways. It doesn't mean that it won't have a big impact either, as adding color through bedding, bathware, pillows and accessories can make a big statement. It's just a lot easier than painting a wall, and for those of you who like to shop, it's got some fun retail therapy packed in too.
I did promise good sources as well, so here they are:
BEDDING

• Best Bedding Stores - this list is our most exhaustive on the bedding front and every shop has some great color to offer along with their traditional whites. Of particular note for the color inclined are
• John Robshaw
• DwellStudio
• The Company Store - great colorful flannel for winter
• Marimekko
• All bedding stores in our curated Marketplace
BATHWARE

Most bedding stores also feature bathware, from towels to bath mats to shower curtains. Therefore, in addition to the shops above, I'd also recommend looking at:
• Matteo - deep, rich colors
• Matouk
• Christy Towels
• Turkish Towels
• All towel stores in our curated Marketplace
CURTAINS

I like the cotton and linen drapes at the following two stores:
• Pottery Barn
• Restoration Hardware
• The Silk Trading Company
• Smith & Noble
• All shade stores in our curated Marketplace
THROW PILLOWS

• Best Throw Pillows 2010 - this is our most up to date list of great, stylish throw pillows from all over. Of particular note to the color savy:
• Jonathan Adler
• Judy Ross
• Amy Butler
• Michelle Varian
• All pillow stores in our curated Marketplace
RUGS

Rugs are a great place to add color and easy to add, particularly when small. This list has a bunch of good choices.
• Best Rugs & Carpet Stores 2010 - This is our biggest list. Of particular note for big color:
• Angela Adams
• Flor Carpet Tiles
• Dash & Albert
• Morris Etc
• The Rug Company
Enjoy your color!

I have changed my bedroom linens near the first day of spring (lighter colors) and the first day of fall (darker colors) for years now. In less than a month, I'll be doing this and around this time I start getting tired of the spring/summer linens and anticipating a new season and deeper colors (and in the spring, I start getting tired of the fall/winter linens and anticipating lighter colors). I used to change linens when daylight savings time changed, but that made the spring/summer linens get more wear than the fall/winter, so I started doing this around the changes of the seasons. I also change towels and rugs in the bathroom and pillows in my living room at the same time.
Judy Ross is the best!
Nice and simple advice.. the background music felt to be a bit too loud at times though. However, as I was saying, I appreciate a lot this 4th clip. It does say something rather logical and straightforward and most of all, doable, doesn't it! Got it, I will definitely go for buying colourful objects (instead of repainting..:) )
Hey, Maxwell, where did you get that blue/black long sleeve stripped t-shirt ? Great color. Cheers, Philip
Ok, I give up. Where did you get the purple blanket and colorful pillows. I'm vexed.
Too bad I'm not a Rockefeller. These are lovely options, but some lower end price points would be great.
Love the blonde hair, you may want to consider keeping that. I had purple/pink/red/blue streaks in mine for the weekend, does that count for the cure?
Flowers are an easy, and affordable way to add a pop of color to any space. They instantly change the feel, and smell, of the room. I love the sunflowers! Gerber Daisies, tulips, you name it, they will do the trick!
Maxwell, like the blonde hair as well. I saw you on the subway and was puzzled by the hair color. I thought maybe it was a European hipster that looked a lot like Maxwell. It was you!
I agree with Vintage Chica - these are nice - but how about some price points for the frugal folk?
Get thee to the thrifte store! Lots of cheap color there. Cheap fabric to make cushion covers, old ceramics etc.
I love the look and endless usefulness of Turkish towels, I just wish I could convince my husband of their infinite utility!
Greetings! Would you please list paint colors, all the time, but especially here? They are wonderful!
Love you and love your videos and advice but please find someone to iron your shirts for you. Very distracting. Keep up the great work.
You are a natural in front of the camera.
I've done just this! I'm so easily tempted to change the colour or style so I want the change to be as easy as possible.
I think changing around these elements are great tricks for seasonal/ mood home decor and creating atmosphere.
I make throw pillows : )

Any ideas on where the white floor lamps (the ones beside the bed in the video) are from? Looking for some just like them. Thanks!
Estoy agregando color en mi living con las cortinas.
Muchas gracias.
P.D:Excelente el video de la 4ª semana, mucho más dinámico, pero hay que avisarle a Rebecca que cuide mejor los niveles de audio.
Just found the pillows. I'm sorry, I 'm not paying $150 for a throw pillow even if I could afford it. Let's try to use some examples that aren't so lavish.
Thank you for this post! I have been searching the net a lot your blog one of the good ones. This is the stuff I am looking for. Very good to know all this. Before I start my new project.
ok what's the deal with the empty black box instead of the video? I saw the same issue with the last color cure entry...is it because I'm using firefox? is it because I'm not in the US?
sad I can't watch
Agreed, RockerJD. If we're going for changeable and noncommittal, great, but can we be mutable without being superfluously wasteful?
Maxwell is giving us ideas, not saying we have to purchase the same or even similar pillows. Please don't whinge about prices: you can find the right pillows, or linens, or whatever at an affordable price point if you just look.
