Are you looking
for some design, art, and architecture related events for this weekend. Well look no further, because this weekend is brimming with some notable exhibitions worth checking out. First off is Thinkspace Gallery's huge Picks of the Harvest: Batch IV
show tonite from 6pm till 11pm. One hundred and twenty-two artists from 21 states, 10 countries, with over 300 works of art exhibited...this is practically a one stop show that should keep you busy all evening. Curious? Check out the artwork here.
And a reminder, yonder east in Pasadena, Saturday from noon to 6pm is "Open House: Architecture and Technology for Intelligent Living," a jointly produced show hosted by Art Center and the Vitra Design Museum of Germany. The exhibition explores sustainable living through technological advances in materials, "smart" domestic technologies and architecture. The exhibition also features a timeline with other notable "houses of the future," from such design luminaries such as Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion House, Alison and Peter Smithson's House of the Future, Matti Suuronen's Futuro House and Robert Whittier's Monsanto House [sigh]. This is my kind of house party!
Also Saturday, from 10am - 7pm in Downtown Los Angeles, is a Los Angeles magazine hosted tour of three different interpretations of loft living and penthouse residences at the Biscuit Company Lofts
: DesignLofts 2007. The lofts are designed by Kenneth Brown (star of HGTV's reDesign), Aleks Istanbullu (architect/designer of Biscuit Lofts), and Andersen Miller Design. Tour and Party tickets benefit Gen Art
, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting emerging Film, Art, Fashion and Music.
