There may be no better treat on a weekend than pulling down the shades and hosting a little film festival. With homelife being so important to so many people, it's no surprise that many films revolve around it. While these 10 films are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to films about homes, it's a great start to any weekend film festival.

Very nice!!! The Poltergeist is actually playing at the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, PA tonight. This post just got me way more excited to see it.

The movie that comes to mind instantly when thinking about this category is "House of Sand and Fog"... have plenty of Kleenex handy, though.
Also try 'Closing Escrow' if like me your just went through or are going through the process of buying a home. Snarky, dead on comedy.
Great list! I'd add Monster House and Up!
I totally agree with Tutor about House of Sand and Fog. A cool creepy apartment one is Dark Water. Both Jennifer Connelly! I just thought of that! :P
No 'Inception'? The house is a major character in the film that had a host of architectural characters.
For awesome apartments, i recommend: Green Card, Amelie, & Til There Was You.
House of Sand and Fog is excellant suggestion! For me, Grey Gardens comes to mind. Espcially the recent HBO version with Drew Berrymore and Jessica Lang. The house is truely a main character that changes over time.
The Rear Window. The whole film takes place in an apartment.
Life as a House ... such a tremendous movie.
Duplex - one of my favourite movies. I couldn't stop laughing.
Here's another frightening one: Darkness, directed by Jaume Balagueró.
You're missing out if you haven't seen 'House' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN0HVJ5tkIM

What about Disney's "The Little House?"

It's even narrated by Sterling Holloway, that goofy looking guy best known today as the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Cheshire Cat.
My favourite is Auntie Mame. Her apartment changes everytime she does!
While it's not strictly about homes, I keep on coming back to rewatch "Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman" - his photography style was amazing and I covet just about every bit of architecture he ever shot, some of which is gone, most of which is too far away or too privately owned for me to ever see with my own eyes. The documentary is available streaming on Netflix and I can honestly say that I was sad when it was over because I wanted it to last longer.
Oh yeah, trailer for the Julius Shulman film is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT7g8Ul_acw :)
And I just thought of Interiors and Breezy...Breezy is a 70's movie that features a great mid century modern. Love that movie!
Beetlejuice.
"The Lake House" "Housesitter" "Something's gotta give" I know... chick flicks... but nice houses...
the Royal Tennenebaums (sp?, the house was wonderful
The other night a movie called, The Prince of Tides, had a home on the beach which was supposed to be in South Carolina outside of Charleston. I don't know if it was actually filmed there or not, but it sure seemed lovely.
No Monsieur Hulot fans? "Mon Oncle" has to be my favourite "house" movie of all time.
Houses figure prominently in "Sleeping with the Enemy" -- modern, cold, and cruel; vintage vernacular, warm and homey.
And although not a home per se, there is the hotel in The Shining. My husband and I stayed in a closed hotel with our kids once -- there were only 4 other guests in the whole hotel, and the electricity was off in all the rooms. To add to the eeriness though, the hotel had a warren of tunnels underneath, built by the German SS during the war, and was situated right next door to where Hitler's house stood. I couldn't get The Shining out of my head the whole time we were there...
