I've been obsessed with wall hangings lately. If it hangs on the wall and made of fabric, preferably something drippy with loops and tangles and fringes, I'm all over it. So I shouldn't have been surprised that I immediately zeroed in on the Rya Rug, one of the DIY projects in Mari Savio & Kati Rapia's new craft book Surrur (the title mimics the sound a sewing machine makes)
A classic Finnish craft, this rug is made out of piles of strips of stretchy tricot, a t-shirt type fabric. Hang a rug canvas or net on the wall, slip a strip of fabric through one of the holes and knot in place. Start it over the weekend and get your friends and family involved!
