Have you guys met Katie Steuernagle? She's a contributor over at Ohdeedoh and makes all sorts of awesome things. Recently she whipped up this night stand out of a few pieces of wood, some strips of vinyl and a concrete form. Yeah, she's pretty much the coolest — check out how she did it!
The inside of this table is made from a few pieces of wood and a concrete pillar. Not exactly sexy bedroom talk. The outside however received a shiny paint job and these oh-so-pretty strips of vinyl. They're simply tacked on and belted in the middle to give it its high style looks.
Our favorite part about this night stand or side table (depending on what room you place it in) is its size. So many night stands these days are meant to blend with platform beds more so than normal bed arrangements that have a traditional box spring and are higher than 6" off the floor. It's a great height with a good amount of space, perfect for holing fresh flower, a lamp and your kindle while having room for an alarm clock!
Check out the full tutorial over at her personal blog Matsutake and be on the lookout for more great things from Katie over at Ohdeedoh!

White Enamel Flatwa...
omg, omg, omg! I'm going to make one as soon as I come home!
Ah, um, she actually used a cardboard tube, not a concrete pillar ast stated in your narrative.
umm....actually that is a concrete form. google "sonotube"
Daylight, I think that is one the tubes used to form concrete pillars that is sold at hardware stores.
She did an awesome job!
I WANT THESE CURTAINS!!!!!!! Please help me find them. I must have them before I die!
I think this is why it's confusing:
"The inside of this table is made from a few pieces of wood and a concrete pillar"
I love those Macrame'd jars!
I love it I love it I love it. I would to this for my bedroom in a minute. So cute! This is ingenious.

OMG, some of you are ridiculous.
"I used a cardboard building tube from Lowes, two wood circles, and strips of shiny vinyl. Here's the skinny: The cardboard tube comes in a 4 ft length. My local Lowes stocks the 8" and the 12" diameter, but I think the Sonotube website has a larger selection. I went with the 8" diameter. I cut a 27" piece."
"a concrete form" is something into which one pours concrete.
info on the adorable jars?
Thanks so much for this - I have been on the hunt for a small nightstand...but as I'm in a daybed, I'd like one of these apparently prolific not "higher than 6" off the floor" models. Pretty sure I can make this work, though! Lovely and simple.
for those of you interested in the jars check out the author's DIY post here: http://matsutakeblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/spaghetti-sauce-jar-moroccan-lanterns.html
Way to be creative Katie!!
Does anyone know where these curtains came from?! I MUST have them!!!
Thank you for the table love, everybody. The curtains were made by me with fabric I found at my local Hancock Fabrics. It's a weird rayon apparel fabric, but that print jumped off the bolt at me. I'm sorry I don't have a manufacturer or link for you :(
