If you did any traveling in your early years (especially while backpacking around Europe) then you are most likely well-acquainted with the traditional youth hostel. Hostels have always been inexpensive, but a bit of a gamble: sometimes cushy and safe, other times unkempt with a certain "sleep with one eye open" kind of feel. But with a new wave of designer hostels, this may be a thing of the past.
Slate's new design blog, The Eye, delves into a burgeoning trend: the designer youth hostel. Led by British company Generator Hostels, designer-worthy hostels are popping up all over the globe, with help from Canadian interior design firm The Design Agency.
Hop over to Slate's The Eye to see more photos and read up on this enticing (and inexpensive) new travel trend. It may make you want to pack your bags!
