I'm not shy about admitting that I have a lot of bikes. The fact that four of them live in the guest room however, is not something I'm proud of. My promise of a bike shed to my girlfriend has been put on hold for other projects (hot water, a pallet fence for the dog, etc.). But now that we're having visitors for the holidays, the bikes should at least look GOOD in the guest room!
There have been plenty of posts on Re-Nest about indoor racks, like this roundup from Stephanie but I am incredibly picky and haven't found a manufactured one I'm happy with.
So like many times when I can't find something that meets my specifications or my budget, I end up making my own. Since I'll eventually (fingers crossed) build a shed for my bikes, this rack must be the following:
- Maintain a purpose after the shed is created, either as an interior fixture or for it to move into the shed with the bikes.
- Hold at least two but possibly four bikes.
- Must not require I create any more holes in the walls.
- Be attractive.
- Be simple.
- Be made from recycled parts, or those available at my local hardware store
Let me know if you have any ideas ... I've got 1.5 weeks and I'll let you know what I come up with!
