The opening of a new West Elm in Mill Valley, outside of San Francisco, is a welcome addition to the area, and the launch party showcased the store's holiday décor, along with a few new trends.
Natural history seemed to be a popular motif, with images of butterfly wings popping up on pillows, Christmas trees covered in colorful birds, curio style cloches covering displays, and pillars disguised as birch trees with cascading paper moths.
Another trend that was on display was the shift toward the handmade aesthetic. Dishes and glassware take on slightly more organic forms, and small details like handwritten fonts abounded, giving items a slightly more personal feel.
