Round table with angled legs ($499)

We were shocked, yes, shocked, to see West Elm's new catalog this week (catalog whore that we are).

Instead of the chunky, chocolate brown tables and chairs with the groovy purple textiles, and instead of going FAB like everyone else, they have taken a hard turn and are pushing a mid-century modern, BLONDE wood, spare shape style that makes them look like a DWR knockoff shop.

(Or more precisely, they are knocking off Sherwood Hamill's unique furniture style).

Who will win? The jury is still out....

Style wars aside, there's some nice stuff in this catalog, and it looks like West Elm is maturing nicely. Now let's work on the quality, folks. MGR

Angled arm wood chair ($399)

Low platform bed ($449)

Ceramic ases to prove that ripping off Jonathan Adler will never end

Simple work table ($249) and Pivot arm lamp ($89)
