The styling alone sets the pop-up shop apart. With global, and specifically Indian, design in mind, the West Elm creative team has taken the art of layering to the next level. Salvaged ceiling tiles, discovered through Olde Good Things at Eastern Market, create a textured backdrop on which to showcase the sea of new fall textiles, including a line by Allegra Hicks as well as a number of hand blocked prints. I was surprised and delighted to discover that when West Elm describes something as "hand-blocked" and "handmade" they actually mean it. They've established a number of ethical relationships with global artisan cooperatives to produce unique textiles and pieces of art.
Aside from the inspiring styling and chance to check out the new fall line in person, there are a few more reasons to check out the new pop-up over the next few days. Today the shop will be featuring the tape installation of artist, Aakash Nihalani. On Saturday, West Elm will be offering free treats from local favorites, Pleasant Pops, and from 10-12 am on Saturday, many of the popsicle sticks will contain door prizes, including one for an $1,000 shopping spree.

Wow this looks awesome. Probably out of my price range but definitely some nice eye candy. I'll definitely be making an effort to pop in ;o)
LOVE West Elm! I just picked up a few of their recycled glass vases in cool hues for a shelf that needed a little punch of color. Post about it coming soon: www.designwinedine.com
Liz@TheSnarkyBeagle - I thought most prices were pretty reasonable especially compared to what else you might expect in gtown so you might be surprised
the new fall line makes me scream and scream and scream...
if they would just offer that handblocked medallion duvet and shower curtain in (their 2006 color) cyclamen/hot pink...
Their popup looks more inviting than the regular store (which I love too, so that's a compliment)
I went yesterday, and it was great. The people working were a lot more friendly and helpful than at the old DC store, and you can get 20% off one item with a coupon that's tucked into the catalogs they stock by the door.
